History of the State Street Mile

The State Street Mile began in 1983 as a grass roots running event organized by a few local runners seeking the thrill of running a downhill mile through Santa Barbara’s scenic downtown corridor. The State Street Mile has evolved into a premier event that offers something for every person, family and dog who runs, jogs or walks.

In 2000 the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Assistance Program resurrected the State Street Mile bringing back a popular event while raising funds for the Crime Victim Emergency Fund. Every dollar of your entry fee translates into tangible and essential help for victims: rent assistance; food, clothing and emergency lodging expenses; and repair costs for a victim’s vehicle that was stolen in the course of a bank robbery, just to name a few.

On behalf of our office and crime victims in our community, thank you for your support! Have Fun!
